Young children like to investigate, and they especially love to learn about the world around them! Children learn best when they are motivated, have many opportunities for first-hand exploration and investigation, and when their teacher intentionally differentiates and scaffolds their learning. The Project Approach provides a context for this way of learning. The Project Approach involves children in studies of things nearby that interest them and are worth knowing more about. Participants in project training will:
Learn how to implement key events in a project
Discover how to select a topic that will lead to a successful project
Find out about strategies that sustain the life of a project
Understand how the Project Approach supports mastery of early learning standards
Develop a deep understanding of the role of the teacher and the role of the child in project work through engaging in a simulation
Gain insight into the Project Approach by questioning veteran implementers about their experiences
Observe the Project Approach in action in prekindergarten classrooms
Learn strategies for organizing and preparing documentation of childrens learning
Evaluate the potential of the Project Approach to support diverse learners
Develop a plan for implementing the Project Approach with your students
