Teachers must have completed TICM Math Operations Part one to participate in this course. Each participant will:
1. Deepen understanding of problem-based instruction vs direct instruction
2. Understand student errors and mathematically valid and invalid strategies in fraction domain
3. Deepen understanding of the meaning of fractions and the operations with fractions
4. Foster classroom discussions that include opportunities for student generalizing and justifying
5. Identify core ideas and align instruction and assessment to the core idea, especially sequencing student work for conducting a coherent summary aligned to the core idea

You will need to bring the book used in TICM Operations Part 1:
• Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics: Developmentally Appropriate Instruction for Grades 3-5" (Volume II), 2nd Edition
You will need to purchase the following book prior to the start of class:
• Extending Children´s Mathematics Fractions and Decimals by Empson and Levi
