Classroom Discipline, Instruction and Motivation

This course is restricted to Davenport School District only.

The purpose of this course is to provide teachers with the instructional tools necessary for improved classroom management, instruction, and student motivation.

In this course, participants study key classroom management skills through - readings, strategies, videos of successful teachers using the strategies, and practice of the strategies in a collaborative setting.

Topics include: Working the Crowd and Room Arrangements; Praise, and Leave; Visual Instructional Plan; Say, See, Do Teaching; Rules, Routines, and Standards; Understanding Behavior; Calm is Strength; The Body Language of Meaning Business; Eliminating Back Talk; Responsibility Teaching; Omission Training and Preferred Activity Plan; and Dealing with Typical Classroom Crisis.

Purchase of a textbook is required for this course. The textbook will cost approximately $25 and is to be paid on the first day of class.

Registration for this course will close on January 26, 2010. Registrations processed after the close date of the course will be charged an additional $25 late registration fee.
