STEP UP AND LEAD is designed to assist coaches in developing strategies to
foster positive, effective leadership skills in themselves as well as in the
athletes they coach. Tom Keating has designed the course materials to guide
coaches in an exploration of the characteristics of leadership, the importance
of leadership in team sports, the types of leadership, and the responsibilities
of a leader. The course will also help coaches develop effective techniques to
use to encourage appropriate leadership skill in their athletes. Students will
complete readings and view video presentations from leading experts in the
field and apply what they’ve learned to their own programs. Practical
application assignments are included.

Those who

concepts presented. There are no tests or final papers. Instead, there are

a plan or demonstrate comprehension of a new idea. Upon completion, your
coursework and videotapes or DVD should be sent immediately to Drake University’s Distance Learning Center for grading. Coursework in graded
continuously throughout the semester and is graded in the order in which it is
received.
