The Emotional Life of the Child: Engaging Troubling Students

This course will focus on how teachers can engage troubling students in instruction and learning. It will also show teachers how to assist students in the development of trust and emotional growth. The ideas presented in the book are grounded in critical constructivism, which essentially uses techniques of rapport building, interpersonal relationships and interaction in the classroom to obtain an optimal environment of learning -- as opposed to the often used "behavioral" techniques.

This class is based on the book, Engaging Troubling Students; by Scott Danforth and Terry Jo Smith. Students must purchase the book from a local bookstore or at Amazon.com.

One of the instructors will be in contact with you prior to the start date of the course.
