           Body Mechanics & Lifting Training (2009-10) [A]

Target Audience: This 2009-10 training is primarily for all LISD Transportation Staff and newly hired LISD staff.

Please note: staff do not earn PD hours for this activity.

           Brown Bag Webinar Series: Lunch & Learn - Web Applications to Boost Productivity [A]

Audience: Lenawee County and Local School District Administrative Professionals.

Join us online to participate through Adobe Connect Pro. Presenters will be using microphones to broadcast. Participants will need a headset or speakers for listening and a keyboard for typing in text for chat. Log in from anywhere, even home or school. There is no face-to-face meeting.

A link to the meeting will be sent to registrants via email prior to the start of each session to allow access.

Participants can access a test link below to make sure their computer is properly configured to allow participation through Adobe Connect Pro. Then, just prior to each session, a link will be sent out to allow access to the learning space.

Please be sure to have a current email account that you are able to access from anywhere and that your email address is updated in your Coursewhere profile when you register.

    Remember that great site you wanted to revisit but you can’t find it again? Use a web-based bookmarking tool to access your favorites from anywhere you have online access. Organize by tags or topics to easily save links to those great resources you’ll use again. Learn how easy it is to create your own delicious.com site for bookmarking online. Delicious.com is also a great social bookmarking tool to share your links and/or follow what great sites others are saving.
  • 10/13/09 - Whip Up a Wiki Space
    Quick! Build a wiki web space for easy sharing of information and collaboration with work groups. It can be your own web space, but is also a great tool for sharing editing rights with multiple users for planning and organizational purposes. This session will show you how easy it is to set up a site at wikispaces.com.
  • 11/10/09 - Photo Story to Share - Bring Photos to Life with Music, Narration & Special Effects
    Microsoft Photo Story 3 is a free download. This application allows users to import still photos, and then easily make them into a shareable Windows Media Video file by adding text captions, voice narration, special effects, and even music. Create a fabulous video story in minutes.
  • 12/17/09 - iGoogle - Create a Personalized Home Page
    This Google tool allows logged-in users to set up a custom home page. Learn about Google gadgets and how to locate the tools that will help you get organized online, from clocks, to “To Do” notepads, to RSS feeds, to gadgets “just for fun.” There is something for everyone. Also learn about a couple of other online options besides iGoogle, for those who’d like to look at more than one before deciding.
  • 1/26/10 - Google Docs - The End of Portable Storage?
    Remember the floppy disk? Now do you ever wonder which flash drive you saved that document on? Take a look at Google Docs for online creation of and access to documents, spreadsheets and presentations, even forms. As with many web tools, Google Docs allows potential for sharing online documents with multiple groups of users for online collaboration. Learn about options for sharing your documents online.
  • 2/23/10 - Bloglines - Bringing the News Home to You
    Bloglines is a FREE online service for subscribing to news feeds, blogs, and rich web content. There is no software to download or install – simply register and access your account online. You can make your own personalized news page from live Internet content feeds including articles, blogs, images and audio. No need to worry about the confusion of news feed standards (RSS, Atom, etc.) Bloglines is easy to use and provides you with the tools you need to begin creating your own clippings of noteworthy items to save.

           CPR, First Aid and AED Training (Oct. 6, 2009 or Feb. 22, 2010) [A]
Just because you have to take CPR again doesn´t mean it has to be boring! Enjoy the class this year with Dummies on the Run!

Let Jerry Buffman (critical care nurse/paramedic) tell you everything you ever wanted to know about CPR & First Aid in this very relaxed, interesting & informative session.

You will receive an American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) certificate upon course competition. The certificate is good for 2 years for CPR and 3 years for First Aid.

           IEP Collaboration Series

Target Audience: General and Special Education IEP team members, new teachers, parents, advocates, representatives and administrators.

Make your meetings better through these Michigan Special Education Mediation Program (MSEMP) learning opportunities at Lenawee ISD!

You know how important it is for IEP and IFSP meetings to go well. Effective communication means more productive collaboration among educators, parents and service providers – and that’s better for kids with special needs. Facilitation skills help parents and educators engage in better meetings and help participants create safe discussions, listen for understanding and seek mutual, workable solutions in the child’s best interest.

This series covers collaborative communication, problem-solving, and facilitation techniques, the IEP process under the IDEA, the IEP form and the application of facilitation skills to IEP and IFSP meetings. Series elements include:

  • Essential Skills for IEP Meetings (October 5, 2009)
    This session supports collaboration between educators and parents that is essential to develop the best education programs for children with disabilities.
  • Collaboration in the IEP Process (October 26, 2009)
    This workshop builds capacity for teams by identifying opportunities for collaboration in the IEP process under the IDEA and demonstrating how to capitalize on them to create workable IEPs that meet student needs.
  • Collaborative Leadership for IEP Team Meetings (November 16, 2009)
    This workshop sharpens meeting and collaboration skills for IEP Team leaders as they strive to develop compliant IEPs with educational benefit.
  • Sustaining IEP Team Meeting Skills Seminar (October 4, 2010)
    This two-hour seminar is open to participants who have completed "Essential Skills," "Collaboration in the IEP Process" and "Collaborative Leadership." Participants will complete a pre-seminar questionnaire to focus the discussion on relevant topics.
This training features Cheryl Levine from Michigan Special Education Mediation program (MSEMP).

           Lenawee County Elementary School Administrative Professionals Networking Meetings (2009-10) [A]
These meetings of the Lenawee County Elementary School Administrative Professionals provide an opportunity to dialogue and share ideas among peers from around the county in addition to receiving training on topics suggested by the participants.

Scheduled dates are:

  •            Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (March 2 & 3, 2010) [A]

    The window of opportunity for crisis intervention is a small segment of time in which staff must intervene with another person and help address behavior that may deteriorate to more violent or disruptive level. The question is, “How do we control violence with care, welfare, safety and security as priorities?”

    Developed by the National Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc., this course will enable participants to balance the practical applications of crisis intervention with humanistic concerns when faced with a disputive or potentially violent situation.

    This program clarifies basic elements of violent behavior. It proceeds to identify how a crisis may escalate and conversely de-escalate. Finally, it helps identify practical strategies which have proven successful for thousands of human service personnel throughout the nation.

    This is an active workshop. Dress comfortably!!

    According to CPI guidelines, participants cannot miss more than 30 minutes of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and still receive their CPI card.

               Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Verbal Communications Refresher (March, 2010) [A]

    This Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Refresher will use the new Verbal Communications curriculum!

    Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training strategies have proven successful for thousands of service and education personnel throughout the nation. This program will meet the requirements for renewal of unexpired CPI cards.

    NOTE: This is an active workshop. Dress comfortably!

               Nonviolent Crisis Intervention: ASD/Nonverbal Curriculum Refresher Training (January, 2010) [A]

    This workshop will use the new ASD/Nonverbal Curriculum!

               Outlook Email Training for LISD Staff (2009-010) [A]

    Registration is limited to Lenawee Intermediate School District staff members.

    This training will introduce you to Outlook Email and help you feel confident using it for your work at the LISD.

               Retirement Seminar: Make The Rest of Your Life The Best of Your Life
    Key Presenters:
    • Mark Watson from MARSP specializes in retirement planning for public school employees and is an expert in MPSERS benefits.
    • Alice Britton is a retiree member and volunteer who will provide valuable insight into the retirement and health insurance experiences.

    • Health Insurance coverage after retirement—which is very different from what you have as an active employee

    • Retirement Planning and how you can maximize your MPSERS pension

               Successful Substitute/Guest Teacher Training for Certified Teachers (2009-10) [A]
    Two dates to choose from!

    For teachers with a teaching certificate and who have registered to sub in Lenawee County with PESG.

    This half-day training is designed to model and facilitate learning, sharing & networking among experienced teachers focusing on:

    • Back-up Plans
    • Substitute as a Professional
    • Classroom Management
    • Discipline
    • A Principal´s Perspective & Recommendations for Substitute Teachers

    When you register you will be asked to indicate if you are newly certified or an experienced teacher for both elementary and secondary levels. You will also be asked how many - if any - years experience you have substitute teaching. Please check all answers which apply to you. Thank you!

    If setting up your account for the first time, please choose "Lenawee County Schools - Substitute Teacher" as the ´District,´ "N/A" for the ´Building,´ and "Substitute Teacher" for ´Position.´

    There is no charge for this workshop, but if you register but fail to attend without contacting the LISD Professional Development Office to withdraw, you will be charged $75. The office number is 517-265-1619.

    Additional note: It is only necessary to take Successful Substitute/"Guest" Teacher Training one (1) time; it is not necessary to take it every year.

               Successful Substitute/Guest Teacher Training for Non-Certified Teachers (2009-10) [A]
    Two 2-day trainings to choose from!

    For substitute teachers who do not have a teaching certificate and who have registered to sub in Lenawee County with PESG.

    This 1.5 day training will provide opportunities for participants to engage in activities they can use in their role of substitute teacher. Specific training components to be presented include:

    • Back-up Plans
    • Substitute as a Professional
    • Classroom Management
    • Discipline
    • A Principal´s Perspective & Recommendations for Substitute Teachers
    • Lesson Plans
    • Instructional Strategies/Activities
    • Special Education
    • School Related Health
