Phase II Class: PERSUASIVE WRITING, GRADES 3 - 6

Pre-requisite: Participants must have completed PHASE 1 BALANCED LITERACY TRAINING.
Teachers will learn ideas to incorporate and expand their knowledge of Persuasive Writing and how to help kids with their writing.
Phase II Class: MONITORED INDEPENDENT READING & INERACTIVE READ-ALOUDS K-6
Pre-requisite: Participants must have completed PHASE 1 BALANCED LITERACY TRAINING.
This class will review the importance of providing students the opportunity to read independently, with teacher monitoring (MIR). This class will also focus on strategies to be used during interactive read-alouds. Both Monitored Independent Reading and Interactive Read-Alouds should occur daily within the Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Framework.
Phase II Class: READING WORKSHOP: ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT IN INDEPENDENT WORK

Pre-requisite: Participants must have complete PHASE I BALANCED LITERACY TRAINING.
Teachers will learn how to create and use the Reading Workshop format to build active engagement and deepen understanding during independent work.
Phase II Class: RUNNING RECORDS & FOUNTAS/PINNELL BENCHMARKS, GRADES K - 2

Pre-requisite: Participants must have completed PHASE 1 BALANCED LITERACY TRAINING.
Teachers will learn ideas to incorporate and expand their knowledge of doing Running Records and Fountas/Pinnell Benchmark tests.
Phase II Class: WRITER’S WORKSHOP, THE WRITING PROCESS, & 6 + 1 TRAITS OF WRITING

Pre-requisite: Participants must have completed PHASE 1 BALANCED LITERACY TRAINING.
This class will provide an overview of the Writer’s Workshop format and the implementation process within the Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Framework. The Writing Process and 6+1 Traits of Writing will also be taught and reviewed. Teachers will be able to return to their classrooms with strategies and lessons for immediate use. Whether you are a Kindergarten teacher, a primary grade teacher, or an intermediate teacher, you will find this information helpful.
