TEACCH: The Elements of Structured Teaching
|
TEACCH philosophy includes a focus on the individual and the development of a program around needs, skills and interests. The major priorities include centering on the individual, understanding Autism or other developmental disability, adopting appropriate adaptations and a broadly based intervention strategy building on existing skills and interests.
Organizing the physical environment, developing schedules and work systems, making expectations clear and explicit and using visual materials have been effective ways of developing skills and allowing people with Autism and other developmental disabilities to use these skills independently of adult prompting and cueing so students become agents of their own learning; self management of learning.
