           ´Autism Is A World´
Particpants will view this film by Sue Rubin and try to address the following questions (and many more): What image do we have of someone with autism? What sorts of educationa environments best support students with autism? What kind of life do you envision or expect for people with autism? Will social relationships and friendships be different for people with autism? AUIDIENCE: PK-12 All
           Children & Adolescents Intensive Treatment Service from Gateway Healthcare
This workshop will include information regarding child and adolescent treatment services for mental health and substance abuse as provided through Gateway Healthcare. Participants will be informed about our Child Adolescent Intensive Treatment Services for co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders (CAITS/COD). Discussion will include identification of related disorders and access to treatment and intervention for adolescents and their families. Case studies will be presented for discussion. Program information will be disseminated. AUDIENCE: MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL - TEACHERS(GENERAL & SPED); ADMINISTRATION; SUPPORT STAFF; TEACHER AIDES;
           Current Fiction
Participants will learn about current fiction award winners and other new books that could be integrated in a classroom (read-alouds, literature circles, independent reading) Pertaining to curriculum. List and other sources will be made available to help arrive at a common understanding of age-appropriate issues for students and what kind of work performance might be expected from them. Targeted Audience: Elementary, Middle School, High School, Classroom Teachers, Administration, Special Education Teachers, Specialists
           Handwriting Without Tears
The Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) program uses teaching stragies that are mulisensory and developmentally appropiate for children. Readiness activities in PRE-K and Kindergarten prepare children for pencil and paper activies. Using hands-on teaching strategies, teachers are able to meet the needs of each child´s individual learning style
           Selective Mutism
Selective Mutism occurs in 1 in 100 children and has become more common in the classroom environment. Children affected by Selective Mutism cannot speak and have difficulty socializing and communicating in select settings such as school, despite the ability to speak and communicate when comfortable, such as at home. This course will define what Selective Mutism is and provide you with a list of do’s and don’t when working with children with this disability. It will also use case studies to show techniques that have been successful in helping children with disability to learn how to communicate within the classroom setting.            Talkies´ Visualizing and Verbalizing for Oral Language Comprehension and Expression
Talkies was developed so dual coding could be stimulated and developed for those children with severly delayed language development or for those with an autistic spectrum disorder. Talkies is a program with lots of little steps within big steps to deveop the imagery-language connections. Participants will learn the steps to use this program and teach language comprehension and expression to children with severely delayed language development or for those with autistic spectrum disorders. AUDIENCE: Early Childhood Teachers and Teacher Aides, Administrators, SpEd. Support Staff
