      Challenging Behaviors: Where Do We Begin? [A]
This workshop is for early Intervention teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals. typical preschool staff.

This workshop offers a practical approach to helping children with significant behavioral issues. Providers and teachers will come to understand why some children have difficulty with self-control, and will begin to view such children in a new and more positive light. Along the way, the workshop offers specific strategies that can immediately be applied in the classroom.

      Learning Discipline, Connecting Discipline, Communications and Relationships
This workshop is for early Intervention teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals. typical preschool staff.

This workshop offers productive new ways to think about discipline. Attendees will reflect on how their own culture, life experiences, and background might affect their work. Attendees will explore the Discipline-Communication-Relationship Cycle and how those three factors intertwine and impact a child’s ability to develop self control. Childcare providers will learn more about themselves, the resources they have available, and the knowledge and skills they need to feel increasingly successful in their work with children.

      PECS (Picture Exchange System) - IU Early Intervention Staff [A]

This workshop is only for Parents, Educators, Speech and Language, Counselors, Psychologists, Administrators

This intense two-day training is designed to teach participants to appropriately implement the Picture Exchange Communication System. It begins with an overview of the Pyramid Approach to Education to explore the key components of designing effective educational environments. A historical overview of language training programs used with non-verbal individuals is discussed along with how to set the stage for an abundance of communication opportunities. Participants will learn how to implement the six Phases of PECS, including attributes, through presenter demonstrations, video examples and role-play opportunities. Participants will leave the workshop with a fundamental understanding of how to implement PECS with individuals with autism, related developmental disabilities, and/or limited communication skills.” Registration is 8-8:30, with a prompt start time of 8:30. Session ends at 4:30.

      What Do You Do With the Mad That You Feel
This workshop is for early Intervention teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals. typical preschool staff.

This professional development workshop, explores anger, where it comes from, and how young children can gradually learn the self-control necessary to manage their anger and channel it into productive activity. Attendees will learn how to recognize the four developmental stages that lead to the ability to manage anger. Focused and practical, this workshop also offers specific strategies to use when a child is out of control.
