      IU 1 Principals Academy 2009 - 2011 [A]
The IU 1 Principals’ Academy under the direction of Mr. Joseph Werlinich and Dr. Otto Graf, provides a forum for school principals and assistant principals to engage in substantive discussions, practice problem solving, share best practices, examine individual leadership style, look at organization issues, and plan and implement change in their real world environment. Curriculum includes research-based materials as well as sharing of information from principals’ real world situations. Over a two-year period, principals meet 18 days (nine per year) and complete out-of-class assignments. Principals will also develop individual leadership learning goals, create action plans, and maintain a journal. Following each in-class session, principals will apply the knowledge and skills acquired to their own situation. The primary focus of the Academy is to improve leadership behaviors in order to develop standard-based systems where student achievement is maximized.

Additional Dates for the 2010 and 2011 school year will be available shortly.

Using Professional Learning Communities to Improve Teaching and Learning [A]
This workshop is for school administrators.

Participants will design and implement professional learning communities in their buildings. They will be expected to: review and analyze best practices for teaching and learning; review available school data; choose most appropriate best practice; and implement/evaluate effectiveness of the chosen best practice.

Participants will be expected to create an ongoing professional portfolio that demonstrates clear evidence of the completion of designing/implementing a Professional Learning Community; sharing protocol for instructional practices; create focus on best practices in the classroom; and design professional workshops.

In an attempt to make it convenient for you, each session has two dates choices. (e.g. Session 1 is either November 20 or November 23; Session 2 is either January 7 or January 8, etc). Pick one date per session.

After you register, you must call or email Toni Darby at darbyt@iu1.k12.pa.us or 724-938-3241 ext. 238 and tell her which dates you will be attending so that we have a count for each session for meals etc.
