The workshop, The Kidtools System Software: Self-Management, Problem Solving, Organizational and Planning Tools for Children is for Parents, Administration, Guidance Counselors, General and Special Ed-elem-high school, SLPīs, Psychologists, Social Workers, and agencies.
This training will provide participants hands-on training in the use of free software to support students with and without disabilities in inclusive settings. The software provides research-based tools supporting behavior, academics, and transition skills with easy-to-use templates that students can learn to complete independently.
The KidTools System is available for free download on the web and includes tools designed for elementary students aged 7-10 (eKidTools and eKidSkills), intermediate students aged 11-14 (iKidTools and iKidSkills), and secondary students (StrategyTools).
Participants will
- Explore the different families of tools
- Practice using the tools with typical case students
- Plan how to implement the tools with their own students
- Brainstorm additional tools or adaptations to support the particular needs of students on the spectrum
Autism Mental Health Issues Panel
This workshop is for Educators and social workers.
At the conclusion of the workshop the participants will be able to:
- List early signs and symtoms of autism.
- Describe Student Assistance Program (SAP) and how to access an evaluation and additional services at the local Mental Health Centers.
- List mental health services: in-school therapy, out patient therapy, BHR services, and in patient services.

Bullying Prevention Training

This workshop is for Educators who teach in the 4 content areas (each session will be content specific)
Educators will explore the Web 2.0 tools and technology applicable to the specific content area featured that day. (Mathematics on October 15, 2009; Language Arts on November 24, 2009; Science February 4, 2010, and Social Studies March 18, 2010. Breakout sessions may include content specific interactive board (SMART, Promethean, and Polyvision) applications and activities, the "BEST" Internet sites and Web 2.0 tools, exploring collaboration ideas and projects with other educators, and reviewing exemplary lessons and PAīs SAS on the Ed Hub.
Curriculum Design Software Showcase
This workshop is for curriculum coordinators and central office administrators.
Participants will receive a hands-on overview of three curriculum design/alignmnet software and online resources for review and analysis. The tools include: Rubicom Atlas Curriculum EdInsight Curriculum Builder, and the newly revised Cardman.
Dibels Training
This workshop is for anyone in need of training for administering the Dibels Assessment. Participants will receive information and hands-on experience administering the assessment.
Differentiating Course Content and Instruction with the Discovery Streaming Builders

This workshop will explore the new Discovery Streaming website with emphasis on the Builders. During the session participants with create at least one PA State Standardīs based Writing Prompt, at least one, 5 question online quiz, and start a plan to create a student assignment with Assignment Builder. The session will also include a review and discussion of the siteīs other features including images, video clips, songs, interactive Atlas, and other educational resources which support PA Standard based lessons.
DynaVox 3100 and DynaVox Series 4
In this session participants will learn about DynaVox Series 4 products, learn five new features for ease of programming, learn application packages, and clarify three questions each of how to operate DynaVox 3100 products to advance the use of the system for students needs.

Fluency: Get up to Speed
This workshop is for Persons interested in understanding the concepts of automaticity and reading fluency, why fluency is necessary for comprehension and identifying who might benefit from fluency building instruction and who desire to learn strategies for fluency instruction.

Participants will also participate in learning several strategies for fluency building through hands on opportunities.
Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans
A functional behavioral assessment is a process consisting of information-gathering procedures that result in a hypothesis about the function that the behavior is serving for the student as well as antecedent events and the consequences that are maintaining the behavior.
The Behavior Intervention Plan is based upon the function of the behavior and addresses antecedents/environmental trategies, teaching replacement skills, and consequences to reinforce the replacement behavior and strategies to reduce the problem behavior. Crisis management plans, if needed, are also included.

Governorīs Schools District Representatives Meeting
The purpose of this session is to provided data and information on the Governorīs Schools of Excellence and distribute newly modified applications to school district contacts. Information will be shared on school district and IU1 regional participation.
This networking opportunity will also provide for sharing strategies to increase student interest and participation in the Governorīs Schools.
Homeless Childrenīs Initiative Region 4 Workshop
This workshop is for school district homeless liaisons, transportation, child accounting, business office and/or Title I administrators
PDE will present information on the reimbursement of transportation and tuition for students idendified as meeting the definition of homeless under the federal McKinney-Vento Act. How to Present Programs on Eastern Woodland Indians
This workshop is for all Teachers who talk about the Eastern Woodland Indians.
Fort Necessity National Battlefield will host a workshop featuring eight speakers who are knowledgeable in Eastern Woodland American Indian lifestyles in the 1750s. The speakers will provide many hands-on opportunities.
Activities will include: building and learning about traditional Eastern Woodland Indian homes; learning about weapons and warfare; participating in drumming, singing and dancing; learning about trade goods and wampum; participating in fire starting; learn about food and cooking and playing traditional games. All participants will learn about how people today may have been given misinformation and developed stereotypes about the Eastern Woodland Indians. Additonally the workshop attendees will learn simple and engaging ways to present this information in programs.
Each participants will be asked to return to Fort Necessity for eight hours to present elements of what they learned along side the ranger staff. Participants are asked to provide a minimum of eight hours of volunteer service to Fort Necessity between June 9 and October 31, 2008. By the end of the day you will have learned enough to work alongside the paid staff and help staff by engaging the public in hands-on activities that communicate basic information about the Indian Nations who were involved in the French and Indian War. You may volunteer by engaging the public in these activities.
This registration is for the Act 48 hours for this event, you must also register with Fort Necessity National Battlefield by going to www.nps.gov/fone and click on Woodland Indian Training Program. There is no charge for the event, the $5.00 fee to the IU 1 is to receive Act 48 hours for participating.
You must complete both parts to receive the Act 48 hours.
Integrating Videoconferencing into the Curriculum for KITS Schools
This activity will provide professional development in the area of technology integration (with an emphasis on the use of video conferencing to introduce and support PA State Standardīs based content) for grades K-12.
The Activites may also include relevant, content specific Internet searching, the discussion and use of tools such as interactive whiteboards, classroom response systems, webquests and virtual fieldtrips and how thay can be used to effectively teach core content subjects.

Keys2Work and My Career Journey

Individuals interested in refreshing their skills, learning new updates, or getting started with Keys2Work and My Career Journey are encouraged to participate. Middle and high school general and special educators, curriculum coordinators, principals, special education supervisors, & transition coordinators.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities in a small learning community to: increase their competence with the Keys2Work program as a refresher or, learn how to use the program for those who are new to the program. The new "My Career Journey" for middle school students will also be included in the sessions. My Career Journey is the new Middle School web based program developed by Smart Futures to assist school districts in meeting the requirements of the Pa Career and Work Standards as well as Transition as mandated in IDEA. This session will introduce the components of the program and afford hands-on activities for the participants. The sessions are limited to 12 participants to afford individualized attention by the instructor.
Keys2Work Skill Building Sessions
Participants should include representatives from the general & special education staff in the school districts, anyone having experience with the Keys2work program, thoe interested in learning about this program and staff responsible for Pa Career and Work standards.

Math Curriculum Development for Campus Schools

National Board Certification Information Session
This workshop is for any one interested in learning about Board Certification for Teachers and School Counselors.
Participants in this meeting will learn about the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the program leading to Board Certification for teachers and counselors. Information about requirements and fee support scholarships will be shared.
PASA New Teacher Training
The objectives of the training are to prepare teachers (and others) for administering the Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA); to understand the link to the standards, to learn the 6 Questions that Guide the IEP team in decision-making, to determine the appropriate level for each task, to understand scoring rubric, and to become familiar with contents of the current years kit.
The purpose of the PASA training is to provide feedback on the extent to which Pennsylvania teachers are providing appropriate educational opportunities to attain academic standards. To give the test administrators time to prepare and compile materials for testing.
Peopleīs Law School

The Peopleīs Law School is a public seminar series taught by lawyers, judges and other legal professionals.
Lawyers, judges and other legal professionals will discuss law-related topics such as professional ethics, the legal appeals process, family law (divorce, custody, support), juvenile law (including juvenile probation), school law, constitutional law, criminal law (with a particular emphasis on DUI), tax law, and estate law (including wills, probate, advanced directives, and living trusts).
The program is free to the public, although pre-registration is required. Those who should attend include Teachers of civics, history, and government.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse for Mandated Reporters
This workshop is for ayone interested in finding out what being a mandated reporter truly means.
This three hour workshop will review the elements of child abuse, including the legal definitions of a child, perpetrator, and categories and indicators of abuse. The training will provide an overview of mandated reporting obligations, including how to make a report, protections for those who report, and the liability for failing to report. The workshop will also outline physical and behavioral indicators of abuse, the proper procedures for reporting, guidelines to working more effectively with local children and youth services agencies, and the key points of the Child Protective Services Law, including the most recent changes that were implemented in May 2007 as a result of Act 179.
Safe and Civil Schools
This workshop is for Administrators, Classroom Teachers, School Psychologists, Social Workers, Guidance Counselors, Nurses.
The participants of this workshop will learn proactive, positive and instructional strategies that they can immediately implement for effective classroom behavior management. The strategies begin at the school-wide level and can be redesigned to fit specifically to a teachers classroom needs. The teams will learn how to design and define procedures for school-wide and classroom environments. Each team will receive a copy of Dr. Spricks "Teachers Encyclopedia of Behavior Management: 100 Problems/500 Plans" and "The Teachers Encyclopedia Tools".
Randy Sprick is the lead educational consultant and trainer for Safe and Civil Schools. Much of his work involves helping teachers, principals, and other staff establish schools and classrooms that encourage student responsibility and motivation, while humanely and effectively helping misbehaving students learn to behave in more responsible ways.

Wilson Reading System Introductory Workshop/Applied Methods
WRS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT This program is designed to introduce individuals to the principles of multisensory structured language education with the WRS (Wilson Reading System). This training of WRS Introductory Workshop/Applied Methods is the prerequisite for further WRS Professional Development. Participants who wish to pursue subsequent WRS professional development must do so within 5 years of completing this workshop. After 5 years, participants must re-take the WRS prerequisite at the prevailing tuition rate.
Participants MUST bring with them a Wilson Starter Kit (If you have materials available, check the website for the Starter Kit contents and bring those materials along to the training). If you do not have Wilson Materials and need to purchase a Starter Kit, the cost is $149. These Materials ARE NOT included as part for the 3 day session. Wilson Reading System is used with students in grades 2-12 and adults who have been unable to learn encoding and decoding through traditional basal method, whole language, or other phonics programs or who require multisesory language instruction to master the ponological coding system of the English language.
WRS Introductory Workshop/Applied Methods This Workshop consists of fifteen (15) workshop hours (generally five (5) hours per day during 3 consecutive days), and is designed to introduce individuals to the principles of multisensory structured language education with WRS. A Wilson Trainer introduces general program concepts and provides detailed instruction in the lesson plan format for 1:1, small group (3-6 students), or reading class (7-
12 students) instruction. UPON COMPLETION participants who meet the three (3) day attendance requirement of this workshop are able to print an Acknowledgment of Completion by confirming their attendance online at Wilson Academy (www.wilsonacademy.com). Participants are generally able to begin using the program, but are not considered trained in WRS. Participants completing this level of professional development are not authorized to represent themselves as Wilson trained teachers or charge fees for WRS tutoring.
