Reading to Learn the Science Content
Session: 5907 This workshop is for grade three teachers: Dr. Patricia Vathis, Environment and Ecology Curriculum Advisor, Pennsylvania Department of Education, will share her unique knowledge of environmental science, the Environment and Ecology Standards, the PSSA Science Assessment for 4th grade, and her ability to capture the attention of students in READING TO LEARN THE SCIENCE CONTENT. The materials provided at this workshop are developed specifically for third grade learners. If a teacher other than third grade would like to participate, please contact D. Riggle as below. The topics include the characteristics of habitats and the plants and animals that inhabit them, identifying wild vs. domesticated, change over time, the life cycle and the differences between fiction and nonfiction in trade books about animals. Participants will receive the PDE curriculum “Reading to Learn the Science Content”, as well as a collection of trade books, puppets and resource materials for classroom use that have a value of over $500. This workshop was arranged by the IU1 Center for STEM Education. |
