           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff Diagnosis and Medication [A]
The participants at the end of this workshop will be familiar with mental health diagnosis most often given to school aged children, understand the symptoms and how they may interfere with the educational process and recognize which medications are most frequently prescribed to treat them.
           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff EBS Effective Behavior Support [A]
EBS is a compilation of research and various models, which emphasizes school climate, collaborative rule making (Code of Conduct), teaching expected behaviors, and intervention strategies designed to teach the student to make responsible choices. Its foundation is based on the works of Abraham Maslow, Rudolf Dreikurs, (Children the Challenge), Linda Albert (Cooperative Discipline), Thomas Lickona), and Harry Wong (First Days of School). Format: discussions, group activities, individual project, readings and videos This session counts as extra contracted days.
           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff Family and Cultures [A]
The participants at the end of this workshop will be familiar with different types of families and cultures, how they relate to family value system and what kind of impact it may have on the educational process of the student.
           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff NCI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Initial Training [A]
This Induction Workshop registration is for IU 1 Professional Staff.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training focuses on verbal and nonverbal strategies to prevent acting out behaviors and verbal techniques to deescalate problem behavior. Principles of personal safety, team intervention, physical control and restraint techniques (as a last resort), and the coping strategies are also components of the training.

           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff Portfolio Planning and Introduction to Induction [A]
This workshop is for IU 1 Year 1 Professional Staff only.

Inductees - you are to attend this workshop with your mentor. Do not register for this workshop until you have spoken with your mentor.
Mentors - you are to attend this workshop with your Inductee, even if you have attended this before.

This session is held to introduce new staff to the requirements of the Intermediate Unit 1 Induction Program. The portfolio requirements are reviewed, Act 48 and Strategic Plans are presented and the Induction Handbook is discussed.

           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff Progress Monitoring Math [A]
This workshop will provide hands on experience for learning the goals of progress monitoring: how to administer probes, document and analyze data, and use data to drive instruction.

This is the reading progress monitoring session. This workshop will provide hands on experience for learning the goals of progress monitoring: how to administer probes, document and analyze data, and use data to drive instruction.
           Yr 1 IU 1 Staff TEAL Research Strategies/ESL [A]
This induction requirement will focus on reading strategies that are supported by the Reading First and Reading Next Research. Participants will learn to help students to think about their thinking and recognize personal reading skills, through modeling and hands on active learning. In addition, strategies for managing the instructional environment, alternatives for designing the physical classroom environment, strategies to manage time in the learning environment, the importance of and strategies for developing classroom rules and procedures as well as the importance of coordinating resources and being prepared for a substitute teacher, will be reviewed.
     IU 1 Professional Staff - Year 2 Subcategory

           Yr 2 IU 1 Staff Assistive Technology Basics
Participants in this workshop will understand the different types of disabilities educators may encounter in the classroom. Participants will learn about the different types of technologies available for students with disabilities in the classroom.
           Yr 2 IU 1 Staff Data Informed Decision Making
The participants will learn basics of data programs such as emetric, PVAAS, and 4 Sight. They will use the data from these sources to identify strength and weaknesses of curriculum, instruction, and individual students for improvement purposes.

           Yr 2 IU 1 Staff Support Services Continuum for School Aged Children and Early Intervention [A]
This workshop will focus on the continuum of support services to school aged children from the least restrictive (out of school) to the most restrictive (residential) interventions to address their emotional as well as behavioral needs.
           Yr 2 IU 1 Staff TEAL/Research Strategies Part 1
This induction requirement will review the TEAL Year 1 information and provide extensive practice, observation and discussion around additional evidence based reading strategies that engage student learning and while promoting a safe and engaging learning environment.
           Yr 2 IU 1 Staff TEAL/Research Strategies Part 2 [A]
This induction requirement is a continuation of the review of the TEAL Year 1 information.
     IU 1 Professional Staff - Year 3 Subcategory

           Yr 3 IU 1 Staff Differentiated Instruction and Assessment
This workshop will orient new teachers to a framework for thinking about teaching and learning in mixed ability classrooms.

Participants will experiment with instructional techniques that optimize learning for ALL students in 21st Century classrooms. Likewise, they will learn to select and utilize accommodations/adaptations which ensure equitable treatment of diverse learners and maximize academic success.

           Yr 3 IU 1 Staff LRE/Co-Teaching [A]
Co-teaching arrangements between special education teachers and general education teachers is a great strategy for effective inclusion of students with special needs. However, simply assigning two teachers to one classroom is not sufficient for ensuring effectiveness. Preparation, coplanning, and trust are also necessary and professional development is beneficial. This workshop will help participants identify and use effective co-teaching strategies.
           Yr 3 IU 1 Staff Professional Development Presentations [A]
Inductees - you are to attend this workshop with your mentor.
Mentors - you are to attend this workshop with your Inductee, even if you have attended this before.

In this workshop participants will present an executive summary of their Professional Portfolio and identify new learning gained from their self-selected sessions. Each presenter will have about 10 minutes. Supervisors and mentors are invited to attend. Participants will also turn in their Professional Portfolio.
