Arts Education Breakfast
Participants will learn about the capacity of the arts to transform education. Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind, says, “You can’t outsource creativity.” To this end, the MSU Federal Credit Union Institute for Arts & Creativity at Wharton Center and Ingham ISD provide arts-related professional development for teachers in mid-Michigan with The Kennedy Center Partners in Education program, (http://www.kennedy-center.org/education/partners/). Participants will attend a short performance and post discussion with David Gonzalez, nationally acclaimed master storyteller/performer and arts advocate (http://www.davidgonzalez.com/). Mr. Gonzalez will share a personal story of transformation and reaffirm why the arts in the public school curriculum are needed and identify the resources necessary to support arts-related education to teach imagination, creativity, and innovation. Mr. Gonzalez has performed on Broadway, at the Royal National Theatre in London, Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian, and the National Holocaust Museum and taught for ten years at the New York University School of Education from which he holds a doctorate in music therapy.
