Overview of Universal Supports for Students with ASD 2009-2010
|
This Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) module will provide an overview of Autism
Spectrum Disorders (ASD) including definitions, current theories, and research. The second portion of
the module covers the supports considered critical for the vast majority of students with ASD. These
supports are those identified as highly effective in teaching and supporting students with ASD in order
to provide a solid foundation for learning. A team process for developing a universal support plan is
presented and specific supports such as functional communication systems, visual supports, structured
environments, peer-to-peer support, and behavioral programming are presented. Although this session
addresses students with ASD, these universal supports are effective for students with other disabilities
as well. Facilitators: Lisa Basore, Harmonee Costello (September 22, 2009); MaryBeth Chasse, Jen Shaw, Wanda Weston (February 23, 2010). Please register through Eaton ISD Register Here
