The NEW Michigan Merit Curriculum requiring two credtis of World Language will go into effect with the graduating class of 2016. Districts need to begin to design assessments for students who wish to use the alternative option to the high school two-credit offerings. To assist local school districts to develop an assessment, the presenters have developed a prototype assessment in Spanish and French to determine if students have reached Novice-high proficiency. This session is designed to describe the elemtns of a Novice-high proficiency assessment. Examples will be provided.
Participants will:
* Become familiar with the new Michigan world language high school graduation requirement
* Become familiar with the criteria that define Novice-Mid and Novice-High proficiency
* Become familiar with proficiency-based assessments and contrast them with traditional assessments
* Review new language assessment prototypes in Spanish and French
* Identify next steps for developing assessments in your own district
