Description: Kathleen DuVal is an associate professor of history and has been at UNC since 2003. Her research and teaching focus on early America, particularly cross-cultural relations between Europeans and Indians in the North American borderlands that she explored in her first book, The Native
Ground: Indians and Colonists in the Heart of the Continent. She also teaches classes on cultural identities and race in early America, Spanish borderlands, the American colonial experience, and early nation-making in America. Given her diverse teaching and research interests, this should be another exciting and engaging workshop!
Target Audience: Middle and High School Social Studies teachers.
