Description: Participants will take an in-depth look at strategies to assist students in developing effective reading behaviors in the content area classes. Using Buehl’s Classroom Strategies for Interactive Learning and Beers´ When Kids Can´t Read, participants will develop a repertoire of interactive strategies to incorporate into their lesson plans.
Target Audience: Middle and High School Teachers.
Learner Outcomes: As a result of this course, participants will:
1)Determine reading instructional strategies in assisting students in identifying text structure.
2)Explore the value of direct and explicit instruction in reading comprehension.
3)Plan and share lessons that model and incorporate effective reading interactive strategies for learning.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of the thirty hour course - GCS: READING IN THE CONTENT AREA.
