Mission Literacy: for MS/HS

Can you actually teach adolescents to become better at reading and comprehension? The answer is YES! Michigan´s Mission Possible is a statewide literacy initiative that was designed to improve high school achievement, high school graduation rates, and college readiness rates for middle and high school students. During the course, participants will be led through the Mission Literacy website that will support the teaching of comprehension, fluency, and word knowledge through the use of ready to use resources for the classroom teacher. Ideas for read alouds, guided reading for middle school and secondary students and using the inquiry approach for middle school and secondary students will be explored. This course is appropriate for all middle school and secondary educators looking for a way to improve the reading ability of adolescent learners in their subject area.
