MDE Sponsored MI World Language Graduation Requirement
The Michigan Merit Curriculum is designed to provide Michigan´s students with the skills and knowledge needed for the jobs of the 21st century global economy. This new curriculum requires all students beginning with the graduating class of 2016 (6th graders in 2009-2010) to successfully complete two credits in the same world language or have an equivalent learning experience in grades K-12. This session is designed to clarify the new Michigan World Language Credit/ Experience Guidelines as well as the new Michigan World Language Standards and Benchmarks. Participants have opportunity to discuss curriculum and possible methods of assessments, identify resources, develop a district plan to implement the new requirement which focuses on solutions to local challenges.
Districts are encouraged to register a team which includes administrators, curriculum directors and world language teachers.
