Educational Supports for Students with Special Needs (Oct. 09)
Participants will be instructed on the differences between accommodations and modifications in the general education integrated setting. They will obtain skills by actively engaging in activities to enhance understanding in modifying the curriculum. The strategies discussed are from START and address students with autism, however, the strategies are effective for all students with disabilities.
This workshop addresses the requirements of IDEA 97, which strictly states that students with disabilities must be appropriately supported in the general education curriculum before being placed in special education. The law states that if modifications to the general education curriculum have not been made to help students be successful, then the students have not been appropriately supported. Audience: Parents, special education educators, general education educators speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists, para educators, and therapists/counselors
