Independent Project
The independent project started almost ten years ago as a way for staff to initiate professional development that was tailored to the needs of an individual or small groups. Many of the projects in the initial years centered around the development of standards-based units of instruction. Today, the independent project remains a great opportunity to shape one´s own professional development. Several model frameworks have been established. These include book club, professional study team (PST), data based research (also known as Information Based Educational Practice, course or workshop design and implementation, and the development of resources or references that expand student learning. Also, a person has the option to create their own project design. Applications for this type of professional development are available from the Office of Instruction and Assessment.
