We will work on moving away from sentence level grammar and conversational exchanges to more extended paragraph length discourse. Intermediate Russian Language and Culture I is the continuation of a two-year sequence that enables students to acquire intermediate-level proficiency. The goal of RU-205 is to improve functional competence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing by: 1) activating the base grammar generally covered in an elementary course; 2) doubling the learner´s active vocabulary. Intermediate Russian I satisfies the Language Study Requirement of the Liberal Arts Core. Prerequisite: RU-105 or minimum 3-4 years of high school Russian. Permission is required. Intermediate Russian Language and Culture II is the final stage of a two-year sequence that enables students to acquire intermediate-level proficiency. It is a continuation of Russian 205 and intends to further develop the same skills; added emphasis on reading and discussing simple texts; specialized uses of grammar; development of idiomatic use of the language. The goal of RU-210 is to improve functional competence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing by activating the base grammar and doubling the learner´s active vocabulary to reach approximately 1600-2000 words.
