CN205 - Intermediate Chinese Language and Culture I - College level
This is the third part of a two-year college course in Beginning Chinese. The dialect taught is Mandarin and the course is designed for students who have had little prior exposure to Chinese language.
The emphasis in this class is on building up vocabulary and sentence patterns in communicative contexts, and building a solid foundation in pronunciation. Students will expand their ability to carry out simple conversations in Chinese on a limited range of topics, such as campus and family life, social issues and aspects of Chinese culture. Reading and writing (using simplified or complex characters) will be more developed in conjunction with speaking and listening skills. Students will be expected to speak, read, and write all new words that appear in vocabulary lists in the main textbook unless otherwise noted by the instructor. The students will be exposed to a limited amount of slightly modified authentic materials. This may include menus of restaurants, the invitation letters or magazine articles.

CN210 - Intermediate Chinese Language and Culture II - College level
This is the fourth part of a two-year college course in Elementary Chinese Culture and Language. The dialect taught is Mandarin and the course is designed for students who have had prior exposure to Chinese language.
In this course we will continue building the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. With regards to speaking and listening, we will work on initiating, sustaining and closing conversation based on general topics. We will work on moving away from sentence level grammar and conversational exchanges to more extended paragraph length discourse. Students will explore such genres as narrations, descriptions, etc. With regards to reading and writing, we will work on making a distinction between literary Chinese and vernacular Chinese. Students will be encouraged to employ literary devices in the written assignments. Students will also be exposed more to a limited amount of authentic media discourse. This may include magazine and newspaper articles, advertisements, movies, TV programs, radio broadcasts, and so on. By the end of this course students should feel somewhat comfortable communicating with Chinese in a variety of general topics, whether orally or written.

Elementary Hindi Language and Culture I introduces the fundamentals of conversational and grammatical patterns of Hindi language online, with a variety of technology. This course provides Hindi language learning mainly in authentic, real-life social interactions and situations. Students will begin to develop a functional competency in the four primary language areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing while establishing a grammatical base and explorations into the culture. By the end of the semester, students will be able to have a basic conversation in Hindi, know the different sounds of the Hindi alphabet, have a basic foundation for reading in Hindi, and be able to write basic Hindi correctly; and also be able to read and comprehend basic Hindi texts.
