           Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Focus Group - 2009/10 [A]
For BCIU STAFF ONLYThis is a focus group comprised of ABA Teachers, Instructional Assistants, Related Service Providers, Behavior Analyst, Curriculum Consultants and Supervisors that meet once monthly to discuss ABA in the context of their classroom instruction and ongoing program development. All staff currently providing service to ABA classrooms for the BCIU #22 are welcome. Staff will receive ongoing training in ABA teaching protocols, Behavior Analysis, data collection, graphing, and program development. Sessions include a discussion time, instruction in a specific area of ABA, and break out groups for individual instruction or group projects.

           C Print Services: Technologies, Techniques, and Effective Collaboration Strategies
For BCIU Hearing Staff ONLY
These ongoing, job-embedded professional learning experiences are designed to build professional learning communities through effective collaboration strategies among individuals utilizing C Print Services with students. Topics to be addressed include: the editing process, note taking, new devices and technology to deliver services, techniques for troubleshooting technology, and effective collaboration strategies.
           CPI Refresher Course (BCIU Staff Only) [A]
The workshop, provided under the auspices of Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc., is designed for staff working with students who exhibit extremely challenging behavior. The presenters are Crisis Prevention Institute certified instructors.

The refresher workshop will build on the foundation you received during initial training. The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training should be viewed as an ongoing process. Objectives of the refresher workshop are:

  • To develop a greater understanding of course concepts.
  • To problem solve and strengthen crisis intervention skills.
  • To receive additional supporting information.
  • To demonstrate ability and confidence in applying course content and skills to real-life work experiences.

    To register for this workshop, participants must have taken initial CPI training within one year.

    Participants should dress casually and wear comfortable but closed-toe shoes.

    Coaching new teachers and therapists is more than simply answering questions and giving advice. It requires a unique set of skills and practice. A mentor/coach needs to create an open and supportive climate, demonstrate good listening skills and provide constructive feedback. This program will address those aspects of coaching in addition to hearing a panel of recent mentees discuss the personal benefits fo receiving this type of support.

    To develop a working environment that maximizes the opportunity to establish, build and maintain a positive classroom dynamic. Topics to be included: developing classroom guidelines, setting professional expectations, staff scheduling, staff responsibilities, structuring productive staff meetings, staff training, staff assessment and positive feedback, and managing support staff. Participants will learn the vlaue of creating a “team” mentality.
               Itinerant Consultant Focus Group
    This is a focus group comprised of BCIU Itinerant Consultants providing support to students and staff in inclusive district settings. Instructional consultants will meet periodically to discuss the role of the itinerant consultant, develop materials and strategies, create data collection methods, evaluate and develop curriculum adaptations, and discuss/develop in-service trainings;
               Job Coaching and Development in Special Education 2009-10
    Delivering Transition Services to students with disabilities (specifically Autism and Emotional Support).
               Language Based, Functional Life Skills Curriculum for Upper Elementary, MS and HS Classrooms
    This is a focus group for teachers and related service professionals to discuss, plan, compare, share and consult their experience(s), past and present, with a FLS curriculum. We are looking to improve our own programs to better prepare our students for transition periods in school and community. We would like to develop additional FLS curriculum applicable to the students and programs already implemented within IU classrooms. In addition, we would like to learn and compare other FLS curriculum used, to find the best quality curriculum for our students.
               Nemeth Code Training
    Teachers will learn braille math (Nemeth Code) pertaining to elementary and secondary grade curriculum levels. the sessions will also include formatting, rule applications and short form words as they appear in math texts. Information on tactile graphics will also be included.
               Positive Behavior Support in the Classroom [A]
    This training will outline the beginning steps that should be taken when a student presents a challenging behavior. The learner will be able to define the behavior, take data on the behavior, implement a positive behavior support strategy, and reassess the data to determine if the intervention had an effect on the behavior. General positive support strategies will be discussed as well as reinforcement strategies.
               Safety Cares Training [A]
    This training provides a broad set of methods for reducing the likelihood of behavioral crises and improving staff safety.
    Day One training - Nov 20 or Dec 2
    Day Two training - Dec 4 or Dec 11
               Standards Based IEP Goals [A]
    Staff will learn about Standards Aligned Systems. Staff will learn how to take the SAS to develop Standards Based IEP Goals. Practice opportunities to identify elements and generate standards based goals will be given.

    This workshop is for staff supervised by Regina Carpenter and/or working in RTFs.

    This workshop is limited to BCIU Nonpublic/Catapult Staff Members ONLY!

    Participants MUST attend all three sessions to receive Act 48 Credit.

    A series of three sessions to develop more effective school teams and improve communication to benefit students in BCIU nonpublic programs.
