Workshops CategoryIn his keynote address: "Let the Truth Be Told: Reading in the Age of Twitter," Walter Dean Myers and conference participants will explore the importance of literacy, especially during the years of exponential technology growth. 21st Century philosophies, skills, and strategies will be explored and implemented with participants professional practice. Want the students to lose interest quickly? Announce,"We will now review for the test." This workshop shows ways to add fun and interest to what many students see as boring instructor led monolgue. I believe the less a teacher does - more student responsibility the better. That is the focus of this program. Some areas covered: numbered heads, games, yes/no answers only, quiz/no quiz, gallery walk, ambush and many more. Laugh and Learn! How do school leaders expand the quality and variety of formative assessments in their schools? How do they organize and promote collaborative inquiry into student learning based on a range of assessments? Open only to Penridge S.D. Administration How can school leaders develop relationships with relevant groups inside and outside the school community? Participants will focus on advocacy for all students in the midst of social and cultural diversity. How do we leverage today´s connectivity to increase student and professional learning? How we can connect with content through web-based and traditional forms of videoconferencing and increase the use of tools that can improve teaching and learning? Chapter 16 has significantly changed the playing field in Pennsylvania for gifted students and their education rights. This workshop presentation will explain the key components of PA State Board Chapter 16 regulations while answering the following questions: what implications do these requirements have for the delivery of both regular and special education to meet individual student needs - and what does school leadership need to know and do? Part of this presentation will also note recently revised Chapter 16 GIEP an compliance forms and protocols. Act 48 hours will not be awarded. Bucks County Intermediate Unit TAC consultants and two principals will lead participants to a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities as leaders, initiators, and supporters of inclusion. This Act 45 module is devoted to system variables that bring about meaningful changes in teaching and learning. Based on the successful "Getting Ready for Getting Results" workshop, the module will provide participants with a framework for analyzing and acting on school-level, teacher-level, and student-level factors that affect student achievement. How does understanding your strengths and your blind spots affect your professional practice as a school leader? An opportunity to evaluate and reformulate your leadership and communication style to enhance administrator-teacher community building. Part 1 is a prerequisite for this course. What must school and district leaders know to adhere to the requirements of the First Amendment? How are holiday assemblies, music and displays best organized? What does a school leader do when supervision and evaluation approaches do not lead to desired improvements? How do you provide for both the needs of learners and the rights of employees? Pt 1 of this 2 part series discusses the current state of research into diagnosis and treatment of children ages 3-12 with ADHD. Included are strategies for teachers and parents to assist these children in managing the effects of hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention. Part 2 of this 2 part series discusses the current state of research into the diagnosis and treatment of adolescents and adults with ADHD. Topics to be covered include diagnosis, treatment options, differential diagnosis, co-occurring disorders and school and home interventions. This workshop is geared towards parents concerned about their children´s anxiety. We will differentiate between typical anxiety and when it may be time to get our child some help. Various anxiety disorders will be covered, such as phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, and separation anxiety. Coping strategies will be discussed. Monthly meetings of the Technology Advisory Council. Representatives from each of the 13 school districts and 3 vo-tech schools participate in these meetings. This council meets to discuss, local, regional, and statewide issues related to technology and its input on education. The districts actively share resources and best practices, collaborate on projects and work towards advancing technology capacity across the county. Weekly classes will provide participants an opportunity to develop basic expressive and receptive Sign Language skills to use in classrooms and in the community. Lessons will incorporate demonstrations and allow time for large and small group practice of new vocabulary and grammar. There are no prerequisite skills necessary for this class. Internet Safety: Privacy, Predators and Pornography Oh MY! Comprehensive CPR/First Aid/AED Training by the American Safety & Health Institute run by Progressive Training Solutions. Certificates are good for two years. This training will begin at 8:00 a.m. Attendees who arrive late will be turned away. This full-day workshop will introduce participants to the important considerations that need to be addressed in developing online content and courses. CreationStation is an easy-to-use software tool included in the SAFARI Montage package installed in Bucks County districts through the BCIU grant, and is available to all participating districts. This talk will provide an overview of the most common mental and behavioral disorders that exist in childhood and adolescence. Included will be brief reviews of the diagnostic criteria for each disorder, discussion of how each disorder presents behaviorally in "real life", current treatment options, and a foundation for interventions that work. Work session intended to assist early intervention staff as they adopt online calendars and other tools. Appropriate for novice and experienced google calendar users. A hands on walk-through of the web-based WSS reporting replacing ECAP. ECS staff and Preschool EI Providers only. In today´s world, we are connected to each other with lightning speed, but how do we leverage this connectivity to increase student and professional learning? The purpose of this day is to connect with experts through web-based and traditional forms of videoconferencing and to increase awareness of tools that can improve teaching and learning. While this day is geared toward Library Media Specialists, it is pertinent to any K-12 educator or administrator. Participants will learn about how students are identified as having an educational disability and/or giftedness. Information regarding subsequent steps, including IEP/GIEF procedures, counseling, teacher accommodations, interventions, and other forms of treatment, will also be offered. Good mental hygiene necessarily means not allowing other people and events to cause us to lose our temper, feel overly depressed, guilty, or incompetent, or ruin our day (or lives). Participants will leave this workshop better able to deal with their significant others, their children, their bosses, and themselves. All participants will live happily ever after. This workshop will present useable classroom and home activities covering: The purpose of the Intervention Fair is to provide the opportunity for Bucks County Administrators and Educators alike to research current interventions from multiple sources within a pressure-free environment. As school districts continue to monitor student achievement, school officials are continuously evaluating intervention systems to best meet each individual student’s needs. Living with chronic illness or disability affects everyone - the person experiencing the illness or disability, family members, friends, and other supports, including educators. While there are many differences based on the nature of the illness or disability, the age of the person, family structure, supports system, etc., the bottom line is that illness and disability are part of the human condition; we are more similar than different, and thus respond - or react - to stressors in a similar way. Dr. Brownsberger and Dr. Dudley will discuss how to effectively communicate to ensure basic needs are met, effectively manage stress associated with illness and disability, and enhance quality of life. On-going, job embedded focus group, meeting to study research based trends, patterns and best practices within the scope of the regular ed. curriculum, PA Academic Standards and the PASA. No one has a poor memory. We have untrained memories. We learn very little "new" things. Everything we remember, either consciously or unconsciously, is through association. When a person consciously uses association techniques the memory can be enhanced. The basic question asked is, What does it remind me of?" This workshop will help participants plan effective communication strategies that they can use to work with cooperating teachers, peers and students. Violence is so prevalent in our society that educators must be prepared to responsibly react to anxiety, anger and aggression. The workshop, provided under the auspices of the Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc., is designed for teachers of students who exhibit extremely challenging behavior. We will review a Excel program how to input data and create a basic graph. tba tba This training is designed to provide paraeducators with specific background knowledge and strategies to help support students with special needs in various classroom environments. These strategies assist the student in accessing information in ways that match their strengths, needs and learning styles. During the session, staff will have the opportunity to make several low-tech assistive devices t use, subject to cooperating teacher agreement, with appropriate students. na tba This presentation will cover the defining features of Positive Behavior Support. Additionally, participants will learn how individualized, reinforcement based strategies can be designed to improve skills and behaviors for our learners. Learn why and how professional attitude is essential in the work place for all staff. na tba The Programs and Services Division of the Bucks County Intermediate Unit holds a biennial luncheon to honor Bucks County educators. This workshop will inform IEP team LEAs and case managers will decision guidelines for the Spring 2010 administration of the Math PSSA-M. It is not sufficient for students to have good word decoding and fluency skills; they must also have a large vocabulary and strategies for making meaning from the printed text. In this workshop Dr. Rasinski will present effective and engaging instructional strategies for helping students expand their vocabularies and for diving deep into the meaning of the texts they read.
