Co-Morbid Mental Health Issues in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders

The presence of co-morbid mental health conditions can have a significant impact on learning, behavior and long term outcomes for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The initial step in uncovering co-occurring mental health disorders is identifying the symptoms and behaviors that underlie and influence an accurate diagnosis so that treatments and interventions can be tailored to the specific etiology of the individual´s disorders. The session will give an overview of the mental health aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorders across the life span, including diagnosis, and treatment of simultaneous psychiatric disorders.
