Audience:
Sixth grade teachers and support staff who implement the elementary Michigan Model for Health® Curriculum.

Course Narrative:
This overview training will focus on the six themes framing the revised Michigan Model for Health Curriculum; nutrition and physical activity, social and emotional health, personal health and wellness, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, safety and HIV education.

Course Objectives:
Participants will:

  • Create an understanding of philosophy and goals of the revised Michigan Model for Health®
  • Examine the newly revised (2009) grade level manuals, and materials
  • Disseminate current health content information; particularly in the area of nutrition
  • Develop a comfort level for using the revised curriculum manual
  • Preview instructional materials used in the curriculum
  • Connect the implementation of school health education across Michigan’s core content areas
