Literacy Coach Network

Audience:
K-12 Current and prospective literacy coaches, teacher leaders, and staff developers

Course Narrative:
The Literacy Coach Network will provide training and support for B.A.I.S.D. literacy coaches and learning leaders. The training and monthly network meetings will be a venue for learning new information, sharing ideas, and promoting literacy in our region. **Educators who attend this series will receive a current resource book on Literacy Coaching.

Course Objectives:

  1. Participants will increase understanding of the roles and responsibilities of coaches, the change process, relationships, building literacy teams and how to deal with district mandates.
  2. Participants will be exposed to strategies for successful coaching, developing relationships and trust, and providing support that includes talking, thinking and processing with others.
  3. Participants will increase understanding of how adult learners learn.
  4. Participants will be provided with tools to meet the many and varied roles of a literacy coach, such as:
    • Preparing for Professional Development Sessions
    • Leading Data Analysis Sessions
    • Leading Study Groups
    • Finding Resources
    • Conversations “On-the-Fly”
    • Organizing Peer-Coaching
    • Assisting with Action Research
    • Doing Modeling and Demonstration
    • Teaching
    • Analyzing Data
