11 Things Teachers Should Know About Web 2.0

In this online course you’ll learn about blogs, social bookmarking, online collaboration and MORE! You’ll have 8 weeks to complete 11 “things” at your own pace, on your own time, from the comfort of your own home or any internet-connected computer. There are no "face to face" meetings-- all coursework is completed online and independently.

"Web 2.0" means the internet is now participatory. The web is no longer just for finding information: it´s for consuming AND producing content through a variety of free web-based applications. Participants will learn how Web 2.0 promotes creativity, communication, and collaboration. An emphasis will be placed on reflecting on the use of the various applications personally, professionally, and pedagogically. Communicating online with other course participants is also expected.

Each of the 11 "things" will require about 1 hour to complete, for a total of approximately 10 hours of course work. The course begins November 9, 2009 and ends January 4, 2010. Any computer with high-speed internet access may be used, but access outside of school may be necessary to view sites such as YouTube that may be blocked by a school district´s internet filter.

All participants must be self-motivated, have a sense of adventure, and be very comfortable navigating the internet, creating online accounts, and accessing email. Participants must be able to troubleshoot and problem-solve as part of the course experience! NO tech support will be provided by MCISD! This is not a class for beginning computer users!

Registrants will receive an email from the instructor with directions on accessing the course Moodle site on or before November 9. To be eligible for 1.0 SB-CEU and/or 10 PD hours all 11 things must be completed. and an accurate log of time online must be recorded and submitted. No partial SB-CEU credit or PD hours will be granted!

Your students are already engaged in a variety of Web 2.0 applications like social networking, blogging, and online video. See what you´ve been missing!
