TARGET AUDIENCE:
  • DCSD school psychologists, social workers, nurses, counselors.
  • School Resource Officers, administrators, and teachers.
DESCRIPTION:
ASIST is a 2-day workshop designed to teach the skills to competently and confidently intervene with a youth at risk of suicide. Developed by LivingWorks Education, Inc., the workshop prepares Youth Gatekeepers to integrate principles of intervention into everyday practice.

LEARNER OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be better able to:
  • Reduce attitudinal barriers which hinder the ability to be direct and comfortable with suicidal situations
  • Dispel myths about youth suicide
  • Identify the indicators and assess suicidal risk
  • Intervene with a youth at risk of suicide
  • Engage in efforts to build collaborative resource networks for suicidal youth.

Work is done in both the large group and also small workgroup settings.

Observation during participant simulations, discussions and sharing times Course workbook with additional resources.
A balance of safety(of the person + information) and challenge (use of skills to intervene) is exercised throughout the workshop. LivingWorks standard evaluation form. Course contact listing.
Facilitation methods include: lecture, simulations, group discussion and role-play practice. ASIST refresher course information.


Note:
  • Lunch will not be provided.
  • There is no cost to DCSD employees due to a partnership with the Castle Pines Kiwanas club.
  • Registration for community members is being handled by the Kiwanas.
