This class is intended for individuals who have never taken a sign language class.
**This is the same class as the former American Sign Language - Level 1. Employees that previousley attended the ASL class may not receive credit or payment.**
It will start at the very basic of learning the sign alphabet and finger spelling words. Basic
vocabulary will then be introduced. Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to
have a simple conversation in sign language.
The class will participate in activities that will enrich their learning experience.
Such activities will include but not limited to:
- Interacting with deaf/hard of hearing individuals
- Watching videos in sign language
- Games and puzzles in ASL (American Sign Language)
- Active group participation
Participants will be shown an online sign vocabulary website and will compile a sign
dictionary for reference.
This class will help those individuals that would like to learn how to communicate with
people having a hearing or speech disability that utilizes Sign Language as mode of
communication – whether they are students or adults.
