Description

This course addresses the challenges all teachers face with regards to student behavior in the classroom. In the past 10 years there has been a surge of school related violence. Research shows the importance of being proactive to elicit appropriate behavior. This class addresses research, philosophies and strategies to help teachers become proactive when dealing with behavior problems to minimize safety issues and off task academic time which in turn will maximize learning for all.

Learner Objectives

This course addresses many aspects of antisocial behavior. Teachers will

  • learn how to recognize students with anti social behavior and the factors that contribute to its’ development.
  • review Foundations 1 by looking at classroom management which help teachers become aware of how they contribute to antisocial behavior.
  • build an awareness of bullying and look at how PBS works in school wide behavior plans.
  • learn how to collect data using behavior analysis and then how to address that behavior with strategies in behavior reduction and behavior enhancement techniques.

  • This skills block is for CERTIFIED employees only (teachers, counselors, coordinators, nurses, etc.).
  • Support staff are encouraged to register for Managing Student Behavior for Support Staff: CLASSIFIED Skill Block.
