Description:
The Facilitation Skills training is designed for CVHS teacher leaders who are responsible for weekly PLC meetings. Learners will examine the role of a facilitator, how to establish a team and how to facilitate effective PLC meetings.

CVHS teacher Leaders need to be equipped with a basic understanding of a facilitator´s role and elements of and effective meeting.

Upon completing this workshop, learners will:

  • understand the role of a facilitator
  • understand the steps for establishing a team
  • be able to describe the critical components of an effective team
  • exasmine strategies for working with teams and facilitating conflice situatesion
  • increase their confidence level in being able to facilitate and effective PLC meeting.

Description:
The goal of this course is to train teachers that are new to the SIMMS Integrates Math program and who will be teaching the SIMMS Intergrate Mat I & III Modules in the 2009 - 2010 school year.
The teachers will :
  • become familiar with the scope and sequence of the math modules
  • understand the philosophy of the small-group, inquire-based approaches to learning that the SIMMS curriculum uses
  • have som training in the effective us of the small-group, inquire-bassed approaches
  • understand the essential learnings for each module

Flagstone Elementary School Book Study
TARGET AUDIENCE:

DESCRIPTION:

Intermediate teachers will read, reflect upon, and discuss Still Learning to Read and Day to Day Assessment in the Reading Workshop by Franki Sibberson and karen Szymusiak.

Course Info:
  • The study group will support teachers in their first three years of teaching reading to intermediate grade students as well as challenging more experienced teachers´ practice with transitional readers.

 

  • Learners will participate in 10 hours of face to face discussions. Participants will also be responsible for responding on-line by writing 10 reflections on our study group site. Time spent on reflections will a minimum of five hours. Participants who are off-track during the scheduled morning meetings at school will make up their time by doing additional on-line reflections and responses.

           SB-PE: Technology Academy at Pioneer (TAP) [A]

TARGET AUDIENCE:

DESCRIPTION:
Staff will be trained in a variety of technology tools they can use in their classroom to increase student engagement and learning. Each session will contain a 20 minute training and a 25 minute work session. During the work session there will be three "experts" to assist class particiapants with their work.

Implementation:

This Technology training will transfer knowledge Pioneer Digital Educators have learned in the past several years to other staff members. The technology skills obtained will increase student learning through the use of technology across all content areas.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

DESCRIPTION:
In this course we will review the foundations of RtI and develop strategies for implementation of the components of RtI here at Sand Creek.

Implementation:

Participants will increase their understanding of RtI and the law, what RtI is and the 3 Tier Model. Teachers will learn how to recognize potential barriers to learning and identify or create possible solutions. Teachers will increase their understanding of learning disabilities, ESL learners, and low performing students and identify instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools to assist these students.

           SG-BCE:Differentiation of Instruction for Writing

Bear Canyon Elementary Study Group

Description:

The group will learn and begin utilizing a writing software product with students who have IEP writing goals. In addition to the use and evaluation of the product, the group will prepare writing lessons, use a Smart Board with instruction, apply techniques to differentiate instruction, and analyze the effectiveness of the lessons with students. The group will research and review several well known writing programs and determine what part(s) of these programs are worth including in our instruction of students at Bear Canyon. (Writer´s Workshop, Write Tools, Six Traits, etc.)
 
 

Learner Objectives:

This study group will give participating teachers an opportunity to receive training on the writing software. We´ll learn and incorporate the use of the Smart Board with our instruction. We´ll research and apply techniques, and adaptations that will improve writing instruction at Bear Canyon.
