Description:

These study groups will focus on strategies to enhance and enrich ESL teachers instruction for ELLs K-12 in DCSD schools. Using data to inform instruction each session will focus on one of the content areas of the CELA pro that evaluates English language acquisition: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Critical thinking will be our targets. Case studies and book studies will guide our sessions each month beginning in October. Sessions will focus on the needs of our ELLs in DCSD.

Learner Objectives:

Using the stages of language acquisition, the ESL matrixes for speaking, listening, reading, and writing, plus the CELA pro scores for ELLs, each ESL teacher will learn how to plan for targeted intensive English Language instruction for their students. ESL teachers will analyze data, share studies, and evaluate plans to improve ELL achievement.

           SB-HRHS: Designing an Effective Website for Students

TARGET AUDIENCE:

DESCRIPTION:

Participants will reasearch effective student websites, discuss planning strategies for developing an effective website, discuss media ethics related web design, learn basic (and advanced) technical skills using Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobst Pro, and School Center. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate with students for both ideas, tech skills, and extended tech support.

Implementation:

Teachers have been requesting a class to learn to make a website and/or to support a website themselves (as students did it for them last year). Participants will have the skills to upload files, link to websites, and support a flexible menue.

The purpose in reading this book is for teachers to learn and implement strategies to reduce their stress and allow them to determine what they should focus on in their classes and what may be "taken off their plates."

  • The participants will read the principles of a master teacher mindset and incorporate them into their classrooms. The stress level of teachers is very high this year, and they need to take a step back and reflect on their practice, essential and important items. This book encourages teachers to implement the 7 principles in their classrooms with specific steps and suggestions for how to apply them in the teachers´ own practices.

The Class will:

  • address the impact of teacher language on building a healthy learning community. It will give specific productive phrases and words clustered in useful categories.
